Week 2

The first week of summer vacation was pretty uneventful.  Time was spent cleaning and the boys and I getting used to being "together" all day.  Hopefully, we get used to it before the baby arrives.  After spending some time in our rooms each day...we also were busy playing playdoh, waterpainting, pizza lunch at the park, baseball practices, trips to the library, and jumping on the trapoline with the sprinkler!!!!  Not too bad of a start for the summer...hopefully this week the weather will cooperate more.
We were also lucky to have our family friend and old babysitter, Megan, visit us for the weekend.  We had a good time just laying around and shopping.  We hope that she and the rest of the Ludwig Fam can come see us soon...or maybe we can make it down to Kansas to see them. We also spent some time at the Painter household in Bassett, Nebraska.  Seeing good friends and bidding Vicy, the German exchange student, goodbye.
Memorial Day was actually pretty EVENTFUL!  Huge storms blew in at around 5:00 PM, right about the time that baseball was beginning.  Tornadoes, sirens, 3 trips to the basement, lots of rain, and pea sized hail were the evening entertainment.  On top of all that...our dear friends Case and Kelsi...and their families, were being escorted to the basement of the hospital while they were awaiting the arrival of the new baby!!  Labor went all night long.  I am happy to announce that Baby Stetson was born early this AM and all is well.  Congrats to the Gabel Family...we can't wait to see that lil booger!!!
I also want to say thanks to all the service men and women who are currently serving or served our great counrty.  And thanks to their families as well....you are so brave....

Updates On All Of Us!

CHAD

Chad with his new senorita in Mexico-2010

Chad and the boys in Wisconsin-2011 (yes...he's wearing the same outfit???)

Chad's occupation is the reason we moved to O'Neill.  He is the assistant manager at a feedyard in Bartlett, NE.  It is called Herdco, and he absolutely loves it!  He has a great staff to work with and he and the manager get along as if they were brothers.  We are so thankful that Case, his wife Kelsi, and their families are a part of our lives.  Chad is also very involved with activities outside of work.  He has recently finished taking an EMT class...and only needs to take the big national test and he will then be the real deal.  He has always wanted to this and actually loves stopping what he's doing to "run to the rescue" when the first responder pager goes off...even at 2 in the morning!!  He also has been helping coach Peyton's wrestling and baseball teams, and is about to begin his own "old man" softball season in the next few weeks.  Have I mentioned that I love him!

LORI

Fun in Mexico-2010

Me and mi esposo in Mexic0-2010

I have had a change in career since moving to O'Neill.  Last year I was hired at the grade school as a medical leave substitute for a second grade teacher.  I also coached high school volleyball, again!  It was a great position and I really loved the staff that I worked with.  Unfortunately...the 2 country schools that were affiliated with Oneill Public Schools closed down and those teachers had tenure over me...so I got the boot!  Tenure is not always a good thing!  Anyway, after turning down a different teaching position in another town, I stayed at OPS and worked one on one with 2 special needs kiddos as a paraprofessional...in hopes that a teaching position would eventually turn up.  With the budget cuts occuring all over the US...a new position in our district was not going to happen....so I began looking for a new school to teach in.  I was again offered a teaching position in another school...and just couldn't make the logistics work out for my family and I...so I turned it down.  UUUGGH!!  It was finally decided that since we have another baby arriving in July...and 3 kids in daycare at an hourly wage would be ridiculous....that I would stay at home.  Never in a million years would I have thought that those words would actually come out of my mouth...I am beginning to look forward to staying home with mucho mathews!!!

PEYTON

Peyton on his 8th bday-2011

Peyton wrestling a girl- 2011 (yes, he beat her!)

Peyton is my big kid...he's 8 and just finished his 2nd grade school year!  He is an awesome reader and an even better athlete.  He wrestled this fall, played soccer this spring, is about to begin babseball, and will join his first football team this upcoming fall.  His busy sports schedule is grueling, and keeps us all on our toes...but I absolutely love watching him excel!  He is a good big brother...although it can be a tough job...and he has been really helpful lately, taking on a few more chores to help mommy in her "condition."

PRYOR

Pryor during his soccer game- 2011

Pryor is my 4 year old.  He is my Romeo and builder.  In fact, one day I believe that he will build me a big ole house!  He loves preschool and coloring.  This year he thought he didn't want to play soccer, but once he put on those new cleates...he was ready!!!  He is so fast...Uncle Leon would be proud!  He will be going to preschool this next year...and then kindergarten the following year!  He loves to kiss my belly and is anxiously awaiting the arrival of the new baby!

PORTER

                                                      Porter at Painters for Easter-2011
Porter refused to "wear" his Halloween costume this year-2011

Porter is now 3 and is about the same size as Pryor, only a little bigger.  And although they look so much alike...they are so very different!  Porter is a very stubborn lil guy who loves to be outside and playing every chance he gets!  He is "ready" to play sports like his big bubba Peyton, and will be more than ready next year when he is FINALLY old enough.  I would have to say that his favorite past time is pestering his brothers, especially Pryor.  I know that in time he will realize that life would be so much easier if he would be nice to his brothers....but Chad assures me its just him "being a boy."  We will see.
